Tired of ticks on you, your kids and your pets? I was as well. I wanted something safe my family and dog as well as for the environment. I have several friends who have lime disease and I have seen the struggles first hand, most notably is the joint pain. I never want to get lime disease but I still want to enjoy the outdoors and especially my yard.

I found what I was looking for in Natures Defender by Cedar Oil Industries.

How to reduce ticks in your yard?

Mow your lawn regularly.
Bag grass clippings.
Trim tall grass and weeds.
Clear tall grass and brush around homes, between lawns, and in wooded areas.

And of course spray, I prefer natural cedar oil to harsh chemicals. Ticks despise the odor of cedar and will avoid clinging to anything that smells like them keeping them out of your yard.

What to expect

I will arrive with my lawn mower and sprayer. I purchase the cedar oil in concentrated form (like many things concentrated form saves space and weight) which I will add water to match the size of your yard. I mix 2 fluid ounces of cedarwood oil (Natures Defender) with to each gallon of water. I will need to use your hose.

Depending on the size of the yard I will spray your lawn with my lawn tractor mounted sprayer. I have a handheld sprayer and a backpack sprayer which I will use one or both to spray around your trees and bushes. You should inform me of any sensitive plants or areas you do not want me to spray.

While you can walk on the lawn right after I am done it may make your feet sticky until it dries which may take about an hour. You will notice I wear my rubber boots when I walk around with the backback sprayer as the rubber boots are easy to clean and ticks have trouble climbing up them. I don't spray when the temperatures are above 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

The general plan would be to spray your lawn monthly with Nature's Defender to kill and repel ticks, mosquitos, ants, fleas and mites. If you have a bad infestation it is recommended to spray two weeks after the first application then monthly afterwards.
